Abstract

This article seeks to shed light on the central issues of the dispute between the prophet Amos and the priest Amaziah. Scholars generally focus on highlighting the issue of prophetic authority and legitimacy, but the reasons why Amaziah wants to prevent Amos from prophesying in the royal sanctuary, which is under his priestly jurisdiction, indicate that the issue of prophetic authority is not the only one, nor is it the main preoccupation of this confrontation.
