The biblical text of the Shema Israel - "Listen, O Israel" (Deut 6,4-7) is a very important pericope for biblical tradition and also for Jewish tradition. If we take into account the current Judaism, this passage is taken as an important profession of faith. Because of this centrality, the Shema Israel is a widely studied text, especially by exegetical and theological bias, from an perspective of emphasis on monolactic or monotheistic worship towards Iahweh. Nevertheless, in the present work, we seek to make a socio-historical analysis of the making of the Shema Israel from the influence of the treaties of Assyrian vassalage. Through the comparison between the Assyrian ideology of treatises and the theology present in the Shema Israel, we aim to demonstrate how the concepts of love, oneness and perpetuity, very present in the Assyrian texts, were incorporated by the Shema Israel. With this, we seek to make an exercise of textual contextualization, to better understand the Shema Israel through the historical context that produced it.
