Arte, arquitetura e arqueologia do Antigo Oriente Próximo no debate contemporâneo e o problema da produção artística no Levante Sul - Parte 1

O debate contemporâneo sobre o reconhecimento de que se produziu arte e arquitetura sofisticadas no Antigo Oriente Próximo alcançou um nível de maturidade investigativa, usando as ferramentas da arqueologia, mas também da estética, semiótica, história, entre outras. Dessa forma, os estudiosos concluíram que a arte mesopotâmica possui a mesma grandiosidade da egípcia e da grega. Apesar disso, parte da região que compõe o Antigo Oriente Próximo foi considerada periférica na comparação ao mundo mesopotâmico. O Levante Sul, lugar onde a maior parte da narrativa bíblica aconteceu se encontra nessa situação e é considerado periférico, não apenas na arte, mas também na arquitetura. Aderir a essa tese sem questioná-la é desconsiderar que as mesmas ferramentas usadas para classificar a arte mesopotâmica podem ser instrumentos de leitura crítica da arte levantina, considerando suas características peculiares, ainda que em menor proporção numérica e qualitativa. Não se pode relegar à minoridade periférica qualquer produção artística. A primeira parte deste artigo aborda o uso das ferramentas conceituais e críticas na classificação da produção artística do Antigo Oriente Próximo.
