The article systematizes five biblical responses to the mystery of human suffering. These responses are associated with four major literary blocks that correspond to theological projects, namely: Deuteronomist Historiographical Work; Prophets; Wisdom and Apocalyptic. Without pretending to present an original theory, the article aims to discuss the mystery of human suffering, based on the answers presented by the biblical text itself. This discussion highlights some more significant biblical passages, in dialogue with studies and analyzes of other researches. In a pastoral vision, it also intends to shed light on the pandemic moment that is affecting the world and, particularly, Brazil. The report concludes that the Bible offers many answers to the sense of pain and suffering, as a pharmacy that has many remedies for multiple illnesses.
