The reconfiguration of the character Judas Iscariot in the Gospel of Judas: a Gnostic itinerary

The article examines the reinterpretation of Judas Iscariot in the Gospel of Judas, a Gnostic text from the 2nd century. Its aim is to understand how the work transforms the traitor into a hero, combining theology and narrative. It applies historical-critical and narrative analysis inspired by the Tel Aviv School. The study shows that the text presents a Gnostic itinerary of awakening, purification, and return. The “betrayal” is seen as an act of spiritual liberation. It concludes that the gospel legitimizes the Gnostic worldview in contrast to Christian orthodoxy.
