Jesus Christ: jubilee hope for the little ones and the poor (Lk 4.16-30)

This article is inserted in the context of the Jubilee of the Incarnation 2025, summoned by Pope Francis in the Bula Spes non confundit (Romans 5,5), inviting us to be “Pilgrims of hope”. The postmodern society is passing through a crisis of values and the Christian life offers us this time of grace (kairós) for a transformation. From the New Testament tradition, our focus concentrates on Luke’s catechism: Jesus of Nazareth emerges as jubilee hope for the Little ones and the poor (Lk 4.16-30). The analysis of the proposal consists in five topics: the Christian hope - central message of the Jubilee year; Jesus, Living Word and his Pilgrimages in the Gospel of Luke; the proclamation of the “Year of the grace of the Lord” in the Synagogue of Nazareth and the message of salvation for foreigners; lastly, the proposal for a living and personnel encounter with Jesus, in the fountains of faith and hope. The results of a research show that the first recipients of the liberation mission of Jesus are the Little ones and the poor, but, all are included in the offering of salvation. It is concluded that the preferential option of Jesus never excludes other groups, but wants to emphasize the mercy of God. Only the experience of a true love in a life donated as Jesus did, can sustain the hope of the human heart. Jesus Christ is the “Jubilee hope” nor only for the Little ones and the poor, but for all of humanity!
